This article provides an overview of the various voting systems available. Each system has unique characteristics and is suitable for different types of decisions or elections.

Basic voting

In this system, voters have three choices for each proposal: "For", "Against", and "Abstain". This straightforward approach is ideal for simple yes/no decisions where abstention is also a meaningful choice.

Single choice voting

Voters can select only one choice from a predefined list. This system is commonly used in traditional elections where a single winner is required.

Approval voting

Voters can select multiple choices, with each chosen choice receiving full voting power. This method allows voters to support all candidates or choices they find acceptable.

Ranked choice voting

Each voter may select and rank any number of choices. Results are calculated using the instant-runoff counting method. This system is useful for elections with multiple candidates, as it helps prevent vote splitting and can lead to a winner with broader support.

Weighted voting

Voters can spread their voting power across any number of choices. This system allows for a more nuanced expression of preferences, as voters can allocate more support to their favored choices.

Quadratic voting

Similar to weighted voting, voters can spread voting power across choices. However, results are calculated quadratically, which can help balance the influence of voters with strong preferences against those with more moderate views.

Each voting system has its strengths and is suited to different scenarios. Consider the nature of your decision or election when choosing the most appropriate voting system.
